"Marvel's The Defenders" follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal - to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
The show takes 3 eps. to get going and about half the scenes from act 1 feel superfluous but the show get's really good then. To then have another villain fake out for the last 2 eps… It's way better than the mess in Luke Cage S01 but Sigourney Weaver was completely wasted on this show. What did she even do? Especially with how cool the underused Madame Gao is. I don't want to be too negative, the highlights are high and the whole middle is great but a sluggish 1st act and a slightly flat 3rd act aren't ideal for such an "event show". It's pretty cool though to see how well the established Iron Fist and Daredevil canon meshed, while the other 2 members are slightly exchangeable. Jess especially could have been swapped with let's say the Punisher. Colleen frankly felt better connected to it all than her. Charlie Cox is lastly the best cast Marvel hero since Maguire's Spider-man and the way the show allows the last 20 minutes to "wrap-up" this Phase 1 of Defenders canon quite satisfying. 7,5/10 PS: Iron Fist needs a costume. Just the scarf thingy would be enough but no, again.
Everyone seems to be phoning it in with this series. Not sure if Marvel was afraid of the criticism after Iron Fist, but this show has declined quite a bit in quality. Jessica Jones has become incredibly obnoxious, just a self-righteous, negative know-it-all who is always smarter than everyone else, almostif the writer is viewing themselves through her.<br/><br/>I think the show just lost me when Daredevil started beating up two guys with shotguns for going after looters. He didn't just take their guns away, he beat them down! Who made this, Huffington Post and MSNBC?<br/><br/>A few episodes later, Luke Cage makes an incredibly forced, cringe-worthy rant about white privilege to Danny Rand. That scene isn't going to age well.<br/><br/>I think Netflix should have stuck to shows about Daredevil and Punisher. In spite of all the hate against Iron Fist, I thought it was one of the stronger, better Marvel shows. It's a bit bogus Defenders has like an 80% RT rating, but Iron Fist has 18%? Come on, put this to the test with an impartial person who hasn't read the reviews, lol. Iron Fist is far better made than this show. I'm on episode 8 and nothing about this show is memorable to warrant another season. I don't think you'd miss anything if you skipped it.
